It is a degenerated Thirdness in the First Correlate, the kind of existence a Legisign assumes in our daily experience. In fact, according to Peirce, a Replica is an individual instance of a Legisign, its application or space-time occurrence. The typographic example that Peirce frequently used is quite clear: a letter or word (the article “the”, for example) printed on any page is an instance of an abstract and conventional entity whose reality is that of a law (CP 2.246).
